Developing abstract questions in the classroom.
In this PD, teachers will learn about the question quadrant (philosophical thinking) and William’s model of differentiation. The first component of this workshop explores the abstract questioning tools. The second component is an interactive workshop allowing participants to be supported and guided as they apply the tools to their current teaching sequences.
LEGO as a thinking tool.
During this PD, staff will be introduced to using LEGO as a tool for facilitating discussions, fostering creativity, imagination, and social-emotional growth while developing critical thinking, abstract reasoning, and problem-solving skills in a supportive and psychologically safe environment. This interactive workshop allows participants to experience LEGO as a thinking tool as they explore how they can use LEGO in their own practice.
HOTs on the spot.
This workshop looks at the difference between higher order thinking differentiation and more of the same. The first component of this workshop focuses on the importance of differentiation for the how to use these tools and the second component of this workshop guides and supports staff in apply tools. Participants will each be provided with a deck of 50 HOTs on the Spot cards for their own classroom use. These are no-prep, no-planning higher order thinking activities that can be used at any time when you need some rapid differentiation.
Understanding the needs of 2E and ND students.
This PD will introduce participants to dual empathy approaches for understanding the needs of 2E and ND students through an all behaviour is communication stance. Participants will be introduced to a modified behaviour observation tool that considers the holistic experience of students and the messaging that their behaviours may be communicating.
